Life is Like. . . .

I found this wonderful saying and it made my day! This is so true! You can find the download HERE. It's amazing how strong we can be when faced with a challenge. It's comforting to know, when you are blessed with amazing friends, you are never alone....

HUGS and Prayers to those that are mourning for those who have lost the battle with D. They are never forgotten. They remind me how thankful I am for each day! One day we will conquer, I do believe one day there will be a cure, and together as an earthly family we will rejoice!

SUGAR BOLUS!!!!! (For Reals!)

Sorry for the delay this morning!
I had to take pictures with my camera so they are kinda blah!

ANYWAYS. . . . . . . . .

I LOVE LOVE LOVE candles! They make me feel warm, I love the smells, and they are just home-y! So for this Sugar Bolus, May I present the Cozy Candle Collection! I had selected some of my favorite smells! You will be getting a total of 5 candles! I am also including a pocket calendar, that is oh so cute! It allows you to jot down things in a hurry and is very durable!
All D Mamas and D Peeps need those little extras in life, especially in this blah, cold, and dreary time of year!!

I love these cute little jars! I LOVE these Village Candles in "Pumpkin Pie" and "Apple Orchard"
These Market Fresh Candles are fun, and after the candle is gone you can reuse the cute containers! I love using these outside in the summer because they have cute handles! You get: Mulberry, Apple blend of three different apple scents as the candle burns down, and Sunwashed Cotton. They are soy, so they burn clean!
Not a good picture of the calendar, but it has larger grid squares, and is made on textured cardstock/cotton paper. Record in style!

Gone....

This was our beautiful backyard..... We spent a long time making trails, and nooks!
We spent a lot of time here playing as kids.
It was like a magical paradise. Trees, plants, animals. How lucky were we!
Although this is NOT a good picture, our home was beautiful! It was like living in a forest.
Only a mile from the beautiful canyon. We sat on this porch at nights in the summer and enjoyed the view! Oh how we loved the thunderstorms in all their glory!
Our backyard was so amazing! It even made doing chores like laundry so much fun!
I just got back from the gaping hole that once held such magic for me, and my eight younger siblings. The holidays, birthdays, and Halloween events. The ups, the downs, and the love. It's so strange. I knew they were destroying it to "fix" the hillside. It was no longer ours, but knowing it was there and driving past it brought back comfort, recalling all the memories. Memories good, and memories bad.

That day, Saturday, July 11, 2009 when I almost lost my whole family to a landslide that killed our three neighbors. It's amazing how you can feel so many emotions at the same time. ANGER that because no one told us there had been landslides there before we moved in. PAIN knowing that my family mourns the loss of their home. SADNESS recalling the events that lead up to the day, because no one would listen to the concerns that something was going on. HORROR recalling that day, remembering the panic, and nightmares. BUT such deep down THANKFULNESS that my family made it out okay. LOVE for the people that were so kind. HOPE that knowing we are stronger than the things we never feel we could deal with.

Life is strange. We may never know why things happen, or whether they happen for a reason, but I do believe I am so blessed. Through the many trails I have faced in this life I have realized that for as cruel as life can be, it is always a million times better!

I am so blessed to have a community of friends, that started out as strangers on my computer. Friends that lift me up when I fall behind. Friends that give me cyber hugs that help me through the day. Friends that are going through mountains of trial, carrying a banner of courage so we all can see. Today through the tears, the joy, the sadness, and the love I just want to say THANK YOU for being you! THANK YOU for being my friend, because in the end, the only thing that matters is the people we LOVE!

Have a great weekend! :)

Apidra Users Lend Me Your Knowledge!

I've heard a lot of mixed review of this new "super drug" and was wondering how it's working for actual users. My doc usually just does what I ask, so I have to do all the research, I do have a few questions?

1- What's the cost?
2- What makes it better than Novolog or Humalog?
3- Did the Doc suggest it, or did you?
4- If its so great, why isn't there a bigger hype about it, like when Novolog/Humalog came out?
5- What is the peak time?

I am always trying to improve my diabetes care, but since I am pretty stable with an A1c of 5.9 I wonder if there is anything I else I can do to be better to my body!

Thanks for your help AWESOME DOC world!

Alcohol Prep Pads Recall Seriously?

I found this a little odd..... I thought alcohol killed pretty much everything! Guess not if this company is recalling wipes that are contaminated with bacteria. . . . . I use this brand! I received a letter from my DME company saying don't use em!

Maybe this is why I got that super nasty site infection!

Triad Alcohol Prep Pads, Alcohol Swabs, and Alcohol Swabsticks: Recall Due to Potential Microbial Contamination

– - If you use individually wrapped alcohol prep pads to wipe IV sites, then this is something that may apply to you. We are supposed to be cleaning the skin to prevent bacteria from getting into the blood. with these, there is the possibility that we will be providing more bacteria, rather than removing bacteria. The affected items are individually wrapped and sold in boxes of 100. The problem is possible contamination with Bacillus cereus . The affected Alcohol Prep Pads, Alcohol Swabs and Alcohol Swabsticks can be identified by either “Triad Group,” listed as the manufacturer, or the products are manufactured for a third party and use the names listed below in their packaging: Cardinal , PSS Select, VersaPro, Boca/ Ultilet, Moore Medical, Walgreens, CVS, Conzellin. [1] Usually, B. cereus is a food borne infection causing intestinal problems, so it is probably much less pleasant in the blood stream. Blah. . . .

I have been SO SICK!!! There has been an awful stomach flu going around. . . . I tried so hard not to catch it, but it didn't work. I don't think I have ever thrown up so hard. (I know, overshare) It started with my Mum and swept through the whole the family. It has also hit my Grandfriends at work (No, not from me)! It has made some of them so sick, and several have ended up in the hospital. Poor Grandmas! I hate sickness! It is so hard for them to recover.
I am glad to be feeling better and back to work. I always feel strange when I miss work. It is such a huge part of my life, and I love it. Thanks for all the ideas about starting a team for the walk. I have never been good about asking people for things, and I really like the ideas! Have a great Day!

I need your help!

I have participated in JDRF walks for a while but never really had my own team. Since it's early in the year, and I have a while until the walk in September, I was wondering if anyone could help me with some ideas to get people involved. Most people including my family really "aren't into that kinda thing". I think it would change people's mind if they tried. Any ideas?

Thanks! :)

DONT FORGET!!!!

Wendy is hosting a SUPER AWESOME Sugar Bolus!!!!!
Don't miss out on the FUN!!!

Good or Bad?

When people see Dexter, they always want to see it up close, and ask questions. This usually doesn't bother me. I like the chance to properly educate people about Type 1 Diabetes. What I DON'T LIKE is when people judge the numbers. It usually starts off with a strange tone of voice with a judgmental ring, "Is that a good blood sugar?" Most of the time yes, sometimes no.
They look at 146 and say: "Well I thought.............. or my grandmas cat is.............".

Seriously?

I am sure you can all relate to what I am going to say....

43 BAD!!!
537 BAD!!!

254, 304, 212 Good?
114, 93, 120 Bad?

Sometimes people don't realize that the numbers can be reversed. Especially while wearing a CGMS. 114 with double down arrows is a BAD number. It means most likely, I will crash or end up with a "correction" headache. 254 is a GOOD number if you have been up all night battling a low or high. Sometimes we take the "bad" because it was better than the "good".

It seems like there is so many misconceptions about diabetes. Wendy and Nicole have recently posted about some HORRID comments made on National TV about "Juvenile Diabetes" (Hello, people quit calling it that YEARS ago. Really Ricki? Not to mention these are shows and comments made by people who are trying to warn people?)

Would it be so hard for advertisers and these shows to educate correctly? I don't think so.

Another day in the never ending struggle of Diabetes......
